The Success story of an auto repair shop in Mooresville, NC
Keith Taylor had little money, but big dreams, when he opened his humble three-bay, 800 square-foot garage on Mooresville’s Main Street two decades ago. Today, his sprawling $1.3 million business – enveloped in a seven-bay, 5,800 square-foot garage on Highway 150 East in Mooresville – is a true testament of his commitment to providing good, quality service.
On Nov. 17, Taylor – president of Taylor’s Sport-N-Import Service Co. – celebrated 27 years of successfully serving the greater Mooresville community. On his anniversary, Taylor is thanking his loyal customers for their trust, and he’s using the occasion to reflect upon his past, but also to continue looking forward to the future. “We went to the bank to start the business and rented a building,” Taylor said of his humble beginnings in 1986. “It was a little hole in the wall, and we were $1,500 in the hole.” However, Taylor said, “We kept reinvesting in the business, and it evolved slowly.”
Just over 15 years ago, Taylor built and moved into his new garage, a NAPA auto care center and AAA-approved auto repair facility that specializes in servicing all import makes and models. In addition to offering all the services you’d normally find in a repair shop, the state-of-the-art garage flaunts multiple bays and lifts and a drive-over pit for oil changes. It also features its own machine shop and North Carolina’s only all-wheel-drive chassis performance dyno for speedometer calibration, performance tuning, troubleshooting and advanced diagnostics.

While the majority of Taylors’ clientele hails from Mooresville, many people travel from Troutman, Statesville and north Mecklenburg County to have their vehicles serviced by the garage that has come to be widely known as the finest import-only repair shop in the region.
To what does Keith Taylor attribute the success of his Mooresville auto repair facility?
“Being straight up with people and standing behind what we do, and only using top-quality parts so our customers don’t have to come back every six months with the same problem. We don’t do cheap work,” admits Taylor. “I’m a bit of a stickler about it. If you want your car fixed right, you’ve come to the right garage.”
